100 Teams in Georgia Express Festival

The Georgia Express Festival saw 100 teams from as far away as Savannah compete on Mother’s Day weekend at Shakerag and nearby venues. Boys and girls ages U8-U12 filled 17 divisions. For a handful of teams, it was their first experience of tournament soccer. 26 teams were in our U8 divisions, representing the true future of Georgia Soccer. Saturday saw play start at 8:00AM and continue amid afternoon rains that made conditions tough for the teams. With the work of a volunteer grounds crew early Sunday morning, Shakerag fields were playable for preliminary games, semifinals, and championships. We were committed to get every game in! Each player received a flower before their first kickoff to present to their mother on this special day. 15 of the 17 championship games were decided by two or fewer goals, with half a dozen reaching overtime.
