Georgia Express Player Development
The soccer landscape is changing rapidly, not only in Atlanta but throughout Georgia and the United States. Some of the changes are being forced onto youth soccer clubs, including age group changes and small-sided play formats for U8-U12. Many of these changes we feel are in the wrong direction for player development. Additionally, there are many choices for soccer clubs in our area, including some of the largest clubs in Georgia. Inside these clubs are some of the top trainers in Georgia.
Georgia Express is making changes starting with Fall 2018 to enhance our approach, to take the best of what we've seen throughout Atlanta, to build on programs that have been successful for us, and to continue to learn from Atlanta United, West Ham United, and our fellow North American Academy Partners.
- West Ham United ID Camp Free to each Academy, Athena, and Classic player U11 and older, the soccer year will kick-off July 24-27. Trainers from West Ham's Youth Academy will work with teams, receiving training sessions provided to West Ham's own 1999-2008 players.
- Individual Player Development Pathways Custom development tracks will be provided to each and every player, including those players making the transition from Rec to Academy or Select play. This includes game-day playing time. As a member of Georgia Soccer, each player should play 50% or greater during games. Our goal will be to create playing environments for those interested to play 75% or more in games. This will continue to include adding second games for players to play-up in age, to play different positions, and to move from a substitute to a starter. We also will offer Technical Acceleration clinics for players needing more developmental and personal attention.
- Limited Travel With the work we put in for scheduling, we are able to have 65-75% of Academy games at home. This provides better life balance for our players and families, which then makes for a healthier athletic experience.
- Fitness & Nutrition Each player will undergo three Performance Tests throughout the calendar year (August, November, and May). Dedicated athletes will have access to small-group Speed & Agility sessions, Injury Prevention Clinics, and discounted training tools
